Dept. of Zoology LGC Field Work Report 2023-2024
1. Objectives of the Field visit/trip:
Field trip is a part of the Syllabus in the 6th Semester Zoology for Animal Ecology & Wildlife Paper i.e, ZOO/VI/CC/24 (B)
The Department organises such Field visit/ Field Trip every year for Zoology Core students as part of their Curriculum
3. To study and widen their knowledge and observe things that are not available in Classroom.
4. It helps to get direct and the first hand experience of what they learnt in the Classroom.
5. The Field trip enhances team spirit and organising Skills among the students and also help the students to collect water and soil samples for further testings and studies.
6. Sometimes, we have the opportunity to visit other College/s for students exchange programme, interaction sessions and joint venture for field works, etc.
2. Outcomes :
Students got knowledge on the fundamental nature and diversity of life forms in their natural habitat and the need to conserve them. Students had the opportunity to collect water and soil samples for comparative studies with other samples collected from other places or sites.
The field works gives confidence and prepare students for in-depth study. It is an opportunity for both students and teachers to add mutual understanding and active interactions for broader knowledge in the subject. The practical knowledge had inculcate in the minds of the students the beauty of the subject and its scope and makes the subject more interesting to the students.
3. Field Work report :
The VI Semester students participated in the Field trip and visited areas of zoological interests and ecologically important places which are within reach by the Department with the insufficient funds available for the Field visit. During the Field visit students could observe the anthropogenic activities affecting the environment particularly the forests, rivers, streams and ponds in the Dilpui ( Large pond) and Tuirihiau (stream). Besides, soil and water samples were collected for laboratory analysis as done after coming back from the Field study trip.
The students also the opportunity to visit Deer Park at Thenzawl where 24 deers are being reared at the time of visit. They also had a glance of the deers at the Park and has interaction with personels looking after the Deer Park regarding the food habits, gestation and breeding history and other behaviours on the spot.
3. Students Exchange Programme cum Joint Field Work :
During the Trip students also had the students exchange Programme with students of Zoology Dept., Govt. Serchhip College, Lunglei. Interaction session also organised where students had presentation on their own selected topics with follow up open discussion. Students could also have joint field study around the College campus on texture of soil, insect population and effects of human activities on biodiversity of the Campus.

Places of visit includes Govt.Serchhip College Campus, Dilpui ( Large Pond and Tuirihiau ( a stream) .
